The contract is being awarded this week, and the contractor anticipates starting work within the next two weeks. Work will continue until snowfall halts progress, with plans to resume in the spring. I will share a detailed timeline outlining when and where work will begin as soon as it's available. The contractor is aiming to complete the bulk of the improvements during periods of low visitation to minimize disruption-specifically avoiding peak months like July and August. Weather permitting, road maintenance may begin this season on the route leading to the Twin Lakes Trailhead. Portions of this work will include repaving and asphalt installation. During repaving, vehicle access to cabins 42-73 will be temporarily restricted. While every effort will be made to reduce inconvenience, the narrow roadways make it impossible to maintain access during active paving operations. Thank you for your understanding and support as we move forward with these important improvements. Reach out to Jack or I if you have any questions. These are the main actions planned in the contract: Hazard tree removal around roads and parking areas Road maintenance and repaving portions of Road 4 (road to Twin Lakes Trailhead starting after Meadow Loop), including placing boulders along road to discourage parking. Installation of speed bumps. Modify existing parking lot handicap accessibility spaces at Rockbound and Twin Lakes Trailhead Installation of restroom at the overflow parking lot Bathroom repairs (roof repair or painting) Replace water spigots with new design and apron Install new trailhead navigation poles with mileages Trail signs and posts for trails surrounding the lake Reroute a connector trail from overflow parking to bridge Create pedestrian trail crossing (reflective paint) near bridge at dam and connect to overflow parking. Installation of fee stations at overflow parking, Twin Lakes Trailhead, and Rockbound Trailhead Install signage as needed for trails, handicapped parking. Regrade TH at Rockbound for mobility impaired compliance Trail work at walk-in campsites (Restoring water connectivity to meadow) Install 3 picnic tables at Twin Lakes Trailhead. Will require shrub removal and earth leveling in center area of parking lot. Replace benches at Twin and Rockbound Trailhead.
