Lonely not because I wanted company in horror, but because so few people had seen the evidence, and because the world kept demanding instant certainty from those of us still trying to understand what had happened. In the storm of disinformation after 7 October, it often felt as though truth moved too slowly for our age. Falsehood had momentum, and denial had armies, but evidence had to be handled with care, and that takes time. For months, when I wrote about what I had seen, I could only tag the few senior generals who had sat with me in the same room, seeing the same evidence, and who knew I was not exaggerating. They knew I was not being theatrical. They knew I was not confusing propaganda with evidence. There was a strange isolation in that, because the public conversation was moving at a pace that left almost no room for the burden of witness. People wanted conclusions before they had seen the facts. They wanted moral simplicity before they had faced the record. They wanted alternative facts to fit their biases, not conclusions based on facts.Since 7 October, I have researched and written about the entire seven-front war. It has consumed my professional life. I have written papers, followed the military and political evolution of the conflict, and have just finished a book on it. I have written both positive and negative critiques of Israel’s conduct. Of course, I am a Zionist in the sense that I believe in the necessity of Israel’s existence, but I have not approached this war in my academic work as a slogan or a partisan reflex. I have tried, as much as possible, to understand it with discipline, seriousness and proportion. (X doesn’t count. That’s part bar brawl, part therapy.)Yet in this context, all of that work feels almost secondary and insignificant. The most meaningful thing I have done since 7 October has not been analysis, or commentary, or strategy, or prediction, or critique. It has been to bear witness to the horrors committed that day and to relay them when denial tried to bury them. Back in 2024, with a visiting group of senior military officers, I was shown part of the sexual crime evidence discussed in the Civil Commission report released today; evidence far beyond the infamous 47-minute reel. It remains the most horrific thing I have ever seen in my life, which to this day causes my voice to hoarsen and the hair to stand up on my arms when I talk about it.There are things that permanently alter your sense of what human beings can do to one another. There are images and details that do not fade, because they are not merely violent; they are desecrations. They are crimes against the body, against the dead, against the living, and against the idea that humanity has limits. Nothing Israel has done in Gaza comes anywhere near the horrors of 7 October. The war in Gaza and the atrocities of that day do not merit being treated as comparable entries in the same ledger. No comparison survives contact with the evidence.I believe Hamas and its supporters understand this, which is why the rapes are what they are most desperate to deny. Every time I have written about what I have seen, the response has differed from the usual abuse. The bots arrive in far greater numbers. The replies are filled with smears, mockery, deflection and outright denial. The purpose is not persuasion. It is intimidation. It is to make bearing witness so exhausting, so poisonous, and so socially costly that people stop doing it.From today, the evidence is out there for the whole world to read, not just for those of us unfortunate enough to see it. People can look away, and many will. People can deny, and many already have. Still, those of us who saw it know what we saw, and we know why it has to be said plainly. When Yoav Gallant said Israel was fighting human animals in Hamas, I understood exactly what he meant. I will not pretend otherwise to spare those who cannot face what was done. You may read it for yourself, here. Silenced No More. I urge you to bear witness, too, if you can bear it.This Substack is reader-supported. Aviation Week :: Boeing’s Carrier-Based MQ-25 Flies As Possible Upgrade Advances

Check out this site https://aviationweek.com/defense/aircraft-propulsion/boeings-carrier-based-… -- Boeing’s Carrier-Based MQ-25 Flies As Possible Upgrade Advances Share Steve Trimble <https://aviationweek.com/author/steve-trimble> April 29, 2026 The Navy’s MQ-25A Stingray takes its first flight April 25 Boeing’s first autonomous tanker is being considered for roles beyond carrier-based air refueling. Credit: Jamie Cosgrove/Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division The*production-representative version *of Boeing <https://aviationweek.com/term/boeing>’s carrier-based tanker aircraft completed a long-awaited first flight on April 25, marking a necessary step on the path to integrate its MQ-25 Stingray onto aircraft carriers and start topping off fuel tanks for the U.S. Navy’s aircraft fleet. Behind the scenes, the company is working on a potential new version of the MQ-25 that would include a probe receiver to extend the Stingray’s 14-hr. endurance 71% to more than 24 hr. U.S. defense officials, meanwhile, are still trying to understand how many—and which—autonomous refueling platforms will fit into the Air Force’s long-sought Next-Generation Air Refueling System. * Boeing <https://aviationweek.com/term/boeing> is looking for new opportunities to extend the order pipeline * The location of an added refueling probe is under study *Following the MQ-25’s 2-hr. flight from MidAmerica Airport in Illinois, Navy officials sounded pleased to see the baseline version of the Stingray enter flight testing after a 4.5-year delay.* “The successful first flight officially initiates the rigorous flight test program, which will focus on expanding the aircraft’s performance envelope and verifying all mission systems,” said Capt. Daniel Fucito, Unmanned Carrier Aviation program manager at Naval Air Systems Command. When Boeing <https://aviationweek.com/term/boeing> won the highly competitive MQ-25 contract in August 2018, Navy officials talked about putting the first production-representative model into flight testing as early as September 2021. That schedule seemed feasible when the T1, a Boeing <https://aviationweek.com/term/boeing>-funded aircraft designed before the Navy finalized the requirements, flew in September 2019 and then refueled an airborne Northrop Grumman E-2D Advanced Hawkeye two years later. But Boeing <https://aviationweek.com/term/boeing>’s production system for the MQ-25 struggled early on. *The company designed the aircraft to have nearly all of the parts put together using an automotive-industry-style full-size determinate assembly approach. In theory, that method accelerates production by pre-drilling holes for rivets to the assembly level.* This avoids the time-consuming task of fixing small variances at the final assembly stage. *But the manufacturer must account for the complexity of lining up the holes in subassemblies built by different suppliers.* Despite the long delay, Navy and Boeing <https://aviationweek.com/term/boeing> officials still have big plans for the MQ-25, which comes with an average unit cost of about $181.6 million. All 76 Stingrays in the original program of record have survived. Boeing <https://aviationweek.com/term/boeing> also continues looking for new opportunities to extend the order pipeline. The company unveiled a concept in 2024 for a land-based version with 40% longer range, thanks to a wingspan extended more than 22% to 92 ft. The *land-based version also featured a new refueling probe for the MQ-25, allowing the tanker to be refueled inflight by other MQ-25s or the Boeing <https://aviationweek.com/term/boeing> KC-46.* The probe modification has evolved into the Autonomous Aerial Refueling Receive program, which is jointly funded by Boeing <https://aviationweek.com/term/boeing> and the Navy. Receiving fuel inflight would increase the *endurance of the MQ-25 to more than a full day,* Alex Ewing, Boeing <https://aviationweek.com/term/boeing>’s lead for the Advanced MQ-25 Integrated Product Team, told the Aerial Refueling Systems Advisory Group on April 22.*If the Air Force and Navy could agree on a single jet fuel blend between the Air Force’s JP-8 and the Navy’s JP-5, the MQ-25 could receive fuel from the larger KC-46 and fly into contested airspace to top off fighters and bombers, he said.* “I think most people really understand that’s where you get much greater endurance, more than 24 hr.,” Ewing said. “And then if we get some fuel consolidation as well, [the MQ-25] opens itself up to possibly shuttle tanking as well.” Boeing <https://aviationweek.com/term/boeing>’s design team is still finalizing the location to install the probe on the MQ-25. A rendering released in 2024 depicts it positioned on the right side of the forward fuselage. But the designers seek to avoid interfering with the air data sensors. In a new rendering, the probe is positioned on top of the fuselage, but Boeing <https://aviationweek.com/term/boeing> wants to avoid the area near the dorsal air inlet for the engine, Ewing said. So far, testing has focused on the software that would control the MQ-25 probe to track the drogue basket of the refueling aircraft, whether it is an MQ-25, KC-46 or Lockheed Martin KC-130. Boeing <https://aviationweek.com/term/boeing> has been using Learjet and Gulfstream testbed aircraft to simulate the conditions for the software to identify and track the drogue basket relative to the position of the refueling probe, Ewing said. Steve Trimble <https://aviationweek.com/author/steve-trimble> Email: steve.trimble(a)aviationweek.com <mailto:steve.trimble@aviationweek.com> Steve covers military aviation, missiles and space for the Aviation Week Network, based in Washington, DC.
