Sounds like SWO behavior. When I was in 47 about a decade earlier there was a det in the early 90s who was embarked on USS Valley Forge.. "happy valley" Was not happy. The Captain at the time hated the air det and was busy mistreating them and wouldn't set flight quarters and a few times they even had to declare emergencies to get a green deck. Or so the story goes. One of the crews decided to fix that issue. NAG.. They did a pony run into Bahrain to get the mail. While there they asked the PC's if there were any old mail bags they could have. They did. Enterprising AW went outside and filled the wore out bags with dirt and rocks and anything to make them look full and then sink. As per usual they came back to the ship and the CO was in a mood and wouldn't give them a green deck. The aircraft told the ship if they didn't get a green deck they were throwing the mail out. No response so they went out in front of the bow and tossed the trashed mail bags.. "Green Deck" The CO was going to bring them up on charges for throwing out the mail until he found out that they hadn't and also discussed how if he did the investigation would indicate his actions towards the det. I wasn't there but some of the people involved were still there and related the story so either it is a good sea story and maybe some or mostly true. Having seen abuse between ships and air dets first hand on 2 different ships and been a party to fighting back I certainly could have happened. I was actually on the HSL-47 deployment aboard Lincoln just prior to this one from Oct 2004 to February 2005 for Bravo to Sea. I did work ups for this 2006 deployment, but rotated to VTs before deployment. It doesn’t seem so long ago. I remember they would usually turn the lights and TACAN after they recovered the E-2 while we were still in starboard D. We would just laugh it off.
