I sort of felt from the beginning that this move by Hegseth was far more about pre-trial discovery than the video itself. I don’t know the law, but I really hope it is not legal for SECWAR to take earned retirement pay unilaterally because he doesn’t like what was said under the guise that he believes you committed a crime without a trial. I’ve been busy so maybe I missed it, but I believe this essentially a pseudo plea agreement so the “war hero” space man won’t have to turn over the records that were likely being subpoenaed for his court martial proceedings. The fraction of the pension and his reduction in status were pennies compared to what his owners pay him. I think he will go the way of Kinzinger, my old representative from one of Chicagos preferred money laundering districts. These guys are a dime a dozen to the donor class and I think they already used up their dime on this guy. Time to wave a few buck at the next up and comer with a National Defense Medal and see if it sticks with all the straight white men that they chased away. This guy was a swing and a miss. I think Kelly knew exactly what he was saying in that video which was carefully written. However, as a retired Naval Officer, he should have known better. Maybe he was arrogant enough to think that DoW wouldn’t do anything. It is one thing to say it in private, but another to put it on a video that is clearly has a political purpose behind it.
