Thank you, Terry. This new Frigate idea is becoming more of a bad dream come true.

The option that should have been picked the first time around was the Bath proposed Spanish Alvaro de Basan/Australian Hobart class. These are a proven Aegis design with an all-US combat system. Should have been an easy choice and I’m sure there’s some interesting politics behind the non-choice and maybe some blowback against Bath for the Zumwalts. I just don’t see how the NSC design can grow into the frigate we really need.

I worked Combat Management Systems at LM for 15 years after retirement from the Navy.  Coast Guard ships are, well, ‘wonderfully simple’ compared to Navy warships.  The number of radios, systems, servers, etc., compared to a DDG?  Spartan.  Oh, and NO weapons.   Correspondingly, there’s less room, less power, less cooling.

One of the MANY challenges will be physically compressing the Navy requirements and solutions into a smaller platform.

This won’t end well.

My two cents.
