Speaking of (toy) museums I went to Speedway Motors' Americas Museum of Speed in Lincoln, Nebraska, last week for the ribbon cutting ceremony for Speed Demon (Sorry for the out of focus pic).
A MUST VISIT!! But plan for two days as it is a couple hundred thousand square feet.
Methinks the primary reason it exists is it functions as a charitable donation (tax deduction) for all the old race cars, because there are hundreds.
Also hundreds of old motors in a mind numbing number of configurations of what has been tried over the now centuries, to make cars go faster.
One of my fav exhibits was a recreation of Jim Rathburn's shop (1960 Indy winner) with the original work benches, tools, etc.
Be that as it may, it is amazing!
Also got a tour of Speedway Motors' distribution center next door - 250,000 square feet of parts in multi tiered racks, 50+/- feet high with wire guided forklifts pulling orders and huge (multi story) dry cleaner like trolleys full of parts computer rotated so the parts come 'round to the employee on three different floors rather than the other way around.
It all functions so that, on average, your order is on a truck (and moving, not waiting) 45 minutes after you place it.
Only one of three in the country.
I hear Summit's operation dwarfs it.
Anyway, My 2 cents? Add it to your bucket.
