In Memory of Ernest “Ernie” McIntyre
A Dear Friend, Mentor, and the Heart of Gasser Magazine
It is difficult to put into words what Ernest “Ernie” McIntyre meant to so many of us. To some, he was the Publisher and Editor of Gasser Magazine. To others, he was a fellow car guy, a storyteller, a historian, or the man behind the pages that helped keep the spirit of nostalgia drag racing alive.
To me, he was much more than that. He was a dear friend and a mentor.
Ernie had a passion for these cars and the people who built, raced, and loved them. He understood that Gasser Magazine was never just about cars. It was about the people, the friendships, the memories, and the history that make this hobby so special. Through his work, Ernie gave countless racers and enthusiasts a place to share their stories and helped preserve a piece of drag racing history for future generations.
He had a way of making people feel like they belonged. Whether you were a longtime racer, a car builder, or someone just discovering the world of nostalgia drag racing, Ernie welcomed you. His advice came from years of experience, and his encouragement often meant more than he probably realized.
As a mentor, Ernie taught me more than the mechanics of putting a magazine together. He taught me the importance of preserving history, telling people's stories, and respecting the people who came before us. Most importantly, he showed me that a magazine could be about much more than printed pages—it could become part of a community.
There will always be cars to build, races to attend, and stories to tell. But the people who help shape our journey through this hobby are impossible to replace.
Ernie was one of those people.
His fingerprints are on so many memories within the nostalgia drag racing community, and his influence will continue through the people he encouraged, the stories he helped preserve, and the friendships he created along the way.
I will forever be grateful for his friendship, his guidance, his wisdom, and all the conversations along the way. I hope that as Gasser Magazine continues forward, we can carry with us the same passion and dedication that Ernie brought to it.
Thank you, Ernie, for believing in the cars, the people, and the history.
But most of all, thank you for being my friend.
You will be missed, but you will never be forgotten.
